The government of Belgium received a threat of a Paris-style attack in its capitol city, Brussels. Stores closed down and people were warned to stay home, away from the windows. On Sunday, the decision was made to continue the state of high alert through Monday. The police carried out a series of raids, and the military is protecting the streets of Molenbeek. This is where one of the Paris terrorists lived. Sixteen people have been arrested in 22 raids. However, the man connected with the attacks in Paris was not among them. He is reportedly hoping to return to Syria, where he received training for radical Islamic jihad. NATO and the European Union are both headquartered in Brussels.

How to Pray: For the swift capture of the terrorist and success throughout Europe discovering any other plots against its citizens. Also, for a sound American policy dealing with Syria and its refugees and any radical Islamists who may already be here. Father, we are the remnant of your people and we ask for Your protection. Help our brethren in Europe stay strong in Jesus and not give into fear.

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1 Peter 1:13

A Radisson hotel in Mali was stormed by attackers on Friday, taking 100 hostages and killing 19 people, including one American. Two Al-Qaeda groups have claimed they were behind the assault. The details about the attack are conflicting and sketchy. Officials are looking for at least three suspects; two gunmen were killed in the rescue. The siege ended when U.N. forces, Mali military and U.S. special forces killed them and released the hostages.
The American killed was an aid worker, Anita Datar, 41. She worked in reproductive health among the Malian women.

Why this Matters: Unfortunately, these types of killings happen every day, all across Africa and the Middle East. It is difficult to keep up with alliances of various armed groups, especially those operating in the deserts of western and northern Africa. In all of these areas, alliances are constantly changing. Some groups identify with radical Islam, and other groups are out for money and traffic in drugs, hostages, and weapons.

How to Pray: As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded again of what a blessing it is to live in this nation–imperfect and ungodly as it is. Thank You! We know that there will not be true peace until Jesus returns and sets up His kingdom. In the meantime, thank You for making us salt and light. Help us to remember what we’re to do and give us the ability to do it.

 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness,
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Col. 3:12-15
