“Paris Attacks Shouldn’t Detract from Climate Change”

unnamedThe President addressed 150 world leaders at the UN Global Climate Summit in Paris on Monday, saying climate change and terrorism go hand in hand. He warned we should not let the recent terror attacks in Paris detract from the important work of climate change and predicted gloom for the planet if it is ignored. Obama said, “I believe in the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that there is such a thing as being too late; and when it comes to climate change, that hour is almost upon us.” The goal of the summit is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate.

President Obama has also said climate change is the most pressing problem the U.S. faces–even more critical than terrorism. An April 2014 Defense Department report that says climate change is a security risk because it degrades living conditions and the ability of governments to meet the basic needs of their populations. It also says those fragile governments may not be able to respond to severe weather situations caused by climate change.

On Sunday, the day before the opening of the summit, 4,500 activists gathered in Paris, in spite of warnings against public rallies. Some of the activists fought with police. Marches and rallies were held in many places around the globe to express the gravity of climate change. One organizer commented, “This is our planet and we are in deep, grave danger.

Why this Matters: Americans list concerns about climate change as one of the least important issues in the upcoming presidential election. The President and Democrat candidates are out of step with that sentiment. No one wants a dirty planet, but as previously stated in this Newsletter, humans have little, if any effect on our climate. However, if President Obama has his way, coal would be banned and the cost of manufacturing will soar. U.S. companies would soon find foreign countries (such as China and India who don’t care at all about climate change) far more appealing places for their factories.

How to Pray: Pray that the President will not be able to steamroll his climate change agenda. The enemy would love to create another environmental crisis to change voters’ minds. Pray for safety protocols to be followed by corporations and for God’s mercy so the enemy will not get his way.

(Isa 61:11) For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.
