Congress is About to Vote

Congress Enters Final Legislative Month of 2015 congressThe House was able to push through two resolutions that would block President Obama’s plan to force steep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. The Senate already approved identical motions last month. The President vows to veto them.

Syrian Refugees – The President wants our current program expanded to accept 10,000 refugees over the next two years. We have insufficient screening measures. Ask God to move on conservatives and democrats to oppose funding for the program until Congress can pass screening protocols.
Omnibus Spending Bill – Congress will begin debating government spending and pass a bill that decides the fate of funding for Planned Parenthood, the Syrian refugee resettlement plan, and Obama’s executive amnesty plan that permits hundreds of thousands of guest worker visas. Pray that Congress will exercise restraint on spending and allocate only as much as the original budget caps allow. Pray that the bill contains provisions to defund Planned Parenthood, Syrian refugee resettlement, and the executive amnesty program.
Bill Reforming “No Child Left Behind” – This week the House will vote on the “Every Student Succeeds Act” which is, in some ways, a step backwards in conservative principles. The bill:

  • Extends K-12 monies through 2020 without reforms or a spending cap
  • Doesn’t remove annual testing mandates that teachers despise
  • Doesn’t provide for Title 1 (low income) portability and school choice
  • Enhances federal government control
  • Provides for pre-K monies and creates new federal  program
Pray this Bill will be defeated and control of the schools will be returned to parents and local communities.
(Pro 29:2) When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:
but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
