Five Year Anniversary of the Arab Spring

Arab springFive years ago in Tunisia the “Arab Spring” began when Mrs. Faida Hamdy confiscated the vegetable stall of a street vendor. Mrs. Hamdy was the council inspector and the stall owner, a young Arab man who was humiliated by her actions, set himself on fire in protest outside the council offices. Other young Arab men followed suit and riots ensued.

First to go was Tunisia’s President Ben Ali, who boarded a plane with his wife and a hunk of his country’s gold and headed for Saudi Arabia. Next went Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Muammar Gaddafi as Egypt became engulfed in civil war. Syria also disintegrated into civil war, and with the abandonment of the U.S., Iraq is now up for grabs. When order in Libya broke down we lost three Americans and our ambassador as attackers swarmed our Consulate and set it on fire. At the bottom of the Arabian Peninsula is Yemen–now in the hands of rebels. Today, millions of refugees from all throughout the Middle East have created a tsunami in Europe and Christians still in troubled areas are suffering martyrdom at the hands of those who serve the god of Islam.

Mrs. Hamdy now sees death everywhere and extremism blooming. She says, “When I look at the region and my country, I regret it all.”

The Islamification of America

A tenured professor at Wheaton College announced on Facebook she is donning a headscarf in solidarity with Muslim women. Larycia Hawkins said she believes the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is the same as Allah, quoting a statement made by Pope Francis. Wheaton, a private evangelical college in Illinois, suspended Hawkins through the spring semester.

One holiday concert at the Anoka-Hennepin School District in Blaine, MN will include a song that includes the phrase “Allahu Akbar.” The school translates the words “God is great.” However, a more accurate translation is “there is no God but Allah.” In a statement, the district said the song will be sung along with a Jewish song, “Away in a Manger,” and “Silent Night.”

A Virginia teacher directed students to copy the shahada in Arabic.Reciting the shahada is the first step in converting to Islam. The wording says, “There is no God but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger.” Female students were invited to wear a headscarf in a companion discussion about the modest dress adopted by Muslim women. The school says there was no attempt to indoctrinate the children, but in response to “security concerns,” the school board decided to close the district schools on Friday.

Why this Matters: Europe is experiencing upheaval and a loss of culture after having accepted millions of Muslims–in part to offset their drop in population due to low birth rates. They have no internal borders and no ability to choose who is coming in. One of the Paris attackers was masquerading as a Syrian refugee.
President Obama has promised to take in refugees regardless of our inability to thoroughly vet those coming in. Now Congress has voted for a massive appropriations bill that will provide more than $1.6 billion of taxpayer dollars to resettle illegal immigrants arriving at the U.S. border through 2018. Nowhere in the bill is money allocated for building a wall, adding security, or improving our capacity to vet anyone.
How to Pray: Father, as we see our Christian culture change, we know we must stand for our faith and trust in You. Teach us to stand our ground and be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

(Mat 10:16) Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves:
be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.
(Luk 10:19) Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy:
and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
