Eleven names of potential justices for the Supreme Court were released by Donald Trump on Wednesday. Trump met with the Heritage Foundation and one other conservative organization before revealing his choices. Saying he would like to appoint judges in the mold of conservative Antonin Scalia, Trump named eight men and three women, all pro-life. Several of these jurists have openly questioned recent Court decisions affirming gay marriage.
The reaction from conservative and liberal/pro-choice groups couldn’t be more different. The Susan B. Anthony List, a pro-life non-profit called it an “exceptionally strong list of jurists with immense respect for our founding documents”
The Democratic National Committee’s executive vice president released a statement saying, “The prospect of Trump appointing a justice to the Supreme Court is deeply concerning, and his list only exemplifies how dangerous a Trump presidency would be.”
Ilyse Hogue of NARAL Pro-Choice America said Trump’s nominees are a “woman’s worst nightmare.”
Why this matters: Trump is working with the Republican National Committee to bring the party together. He has made a tremendous step forward by releasing these names. However, Trump is always one to leave himself wiggle room, and said he plans to use the list as a “guide.”
Continue praying for the election–all positions from the local level to the President. Pray conservatives will get out and vote! Father, convict your people to come together and support conservative candidates, in Jesus’ mighty name.
