Hatred for America Grows in Middle East

Iran Harasses U.S. Navy Destroyer

Four Iranian military boats harassed the Naval destroyer U.S.S. Nitze on Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz. Two of those boats came within 300 yards. Naval officials are calling the intercept by Iran unsafe and unprofessional.

This follows other provocative moves by Iran, including the capture of U.S. military personnel, test-firing missiles, funding terrorist groups and threats of “Death to America.”

It was recently discovered that on January 17, the U.S. Treasury Department secretly paid Iran $400 million in cash to coincide with the release of four American hostages. Administration officials at first claimed this was not a ransom, but the settling of a dispute with Iran that dates back to the days of the Shah in 1979. They maintain this settlement was a savings to the American taxpayers because the issue was kept from being tried in an international tribunal where a judgment could have been more costly.

On Wednesday, the administration admitted having also wired Iran $1.3 billion in interest on the $400 million. This happened on January 19, just two days after the ransom was paid. The money was split into thirteen payments of $999,999,999.99 each.

Why this Matters: President Obama claimed on August 4 that the first batch of money was delivered as cash payment because “we couldn’t send them a check and we could not wire the money” because of sanctions against Iran. However, the $1.3 billion was wired. The President cannot have it both ways. When our enemies mock us, it is a sign of the Lord’s disfavor on the U.S.

Father, give us leaders who respect and honor You, that we might be honored among the nations.

Eze. 22:4 – Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries.

Attack at American University in Kabul

An organized terror attack killed a security guard and wounded 18 people at the U.S.-supported American University in Kabul, Afghanistan. The school has a mostly Western faculty and a student population of roughly 1,700 Afghanis. It has long been a target for the Taliban, but no group has claimed responsibility.

Just two weeks ago, two teachers at the school, including one American, were kidnapped.

Why this Matters: Perhaps word has gotten around that the U.S. pays ransom to terrorists. There is no news yet on any efforts to rescue the hostages.

Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus on behalf of the kidnapped teachers, the family of the man who was killed, and those who were injured in the attack. Again, we see such hatred for the West and disrespect for human life. We pray that any evil plans directed at America and Israel will be thwarted. You are good and kind to preserve and protect us from our enemies.

Ezra 8:22b – The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek him; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.
