America, it’s Time to Pray!

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18

The Lord is looking at us to see what we really want. Do we want a comfortable, easy life in which we blend naturally into our society, or do we want to represent righteousness? One is status quo; the other will bring us tribulation. Can we withstand the trials?

At one time, we could. We were a people who rebelled against tyranny and longed for righteousness. Today, we have become a people who rebel against God and serve wickedness.

Our new America Revolutions are proof: the sexual revolution of the 60’s, the pro-choice/abortion revolution of the 70’s, the homosexual revolution in the 80’s, and now the transgender revolution of the new millennium.

What will be the next American Revolution?

How about a revolution in our hearts where we rebel against sin! That place of repentance is where God dwells. Yes, He is in the high and holy place, but He also dwells with him who has a contrite and humble spirit–to revive him. (Isaiah 57:15)

Therefore, let’s humble ourselves and pray. Perhaps the Lord will heal our land.

Father, forgive us. We have hardened our heart as a nation and are overcome with the deceitfulness of sin. The Bible and prayer are gone out of our schools and Satanism and Islam have been welcomed in. As a Church, we have bent our knee to Baal. We have agreed to go along to get along and the Church no longer stands for the holiness of God. We’ve welcomed same-sex marriage, mysticism, and ecumenism. The Church wants to be just like the world.

But Your Word shows us that doesn’t work. It didn’t go well for ancient Israel and Judah when they served the gods of the pagan nations, and it hasn’t gone well for us. Our leaders are filled with greed, corruption, sexual sin and extreme wickedness. Sometimes, we have acted just like them. Our churches and this nation need to be humbled. Deliver us from our own evil. Revive Your church, we beseech You. And with this election, give us a reprieve; give us a little more time.

Father, You know that our hearts are often filled with fear, hatred, pride, strife, jealousy and other evils. We need Your Spirit to point it out, and humility to admit when we’re wrong. We offer a sacrifice of praise to You, because You alone are God and Your hands have made all things. You alone are good and worthy of all our praise. You promise to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, not because of what we’ve done, but because of Jesus.

We repent for our sins and the sins of our nation. We come into agreement with You. We need help. Your Word says we must have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; this is the sacrifice You require. Show us where we need to repent personally and turn back to Jesus. Let a Spirit of revival infect our lives, our churches, and our country.

Change our hearts! Let it be evident in our wallets, in how we spend our time, in how we treat each other and in how humbly we relate to you. We are in need of Your mercy, Your provision, and Your direction. Make us people who will be pleasing in Your sight.

Father, thank You for Jesus!
Jesus, thank You for Your amazing sacrifice that we do not deserve.
Thank You Holy Spirit for comforting us and teaching us what we need to know.
Father, we praise You and thank You for what You will do on behalf of our nation. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Ps. 16:8 – I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
