Fifty-Five Electors Call for Intelligence Briefing on Supposed Russian Hack of U.S. Election

A Harvard professor has predicted that at least 20 electors will defect, giving Trump 286 instead of 306 electoral votes. One entity pushing for the electors to change their votes is a PR firm called Megaphone Strategies, founded by former Obama appointee Van Jones.

The tactic of casting doubt on election outcomes is spreading. A website in the United Kingdom ran the headline, “Russian Hackers Probably Swayed the EU Referendum Vote in Favor of Brexit.” The British vote to leave the European Union came as a surprise, as all the analysts and mainstream media predicted it would fail.

There has been no evidence of Russia’s hacking of the election: either through corrupting the balloting system or skewing the final numbers. Two U.S. officials, who are not authorized to comment publicly, say the FBI has suggested that the assessment of Russian interference, while “possibly accurate” so far lacks definitive evidence.

The newest allegation of hacking comes from the leak of Podesta’s emails, which was exposed by Wikileaks. Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, denies that any foreign state or agent is responsible. One specialist believes the Russians did this by phishing. He explains that Podesta was tricked by an email asking for confirmation of his personal information. Podesta called an IT specialist who wrote back that it was a legitimate email, so Pedestal clicked on the link, which gave the hacker access to his entire email account. When the IT specialist realized he had a typo–and typed “legitimate” instead of “illegitimate,” it was too late.

According to this specialist, the hacker must have been tied to the Russian government, although there is no proof of such a thing.

However, the Russians may have hacked the DNC over the summer, exposing the collusion between Hillary and the Democrat National Committee to rig the election against Bernie Sanders. That was the scandal that cost DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz her job.

Why this Matters: This latest fake news report about the Russian hack into the U.S. election was unsupported by evidence; it simply ran on innuendo: it was a “secret report,” coming out of an unnamed source in the CIA. There has been no verification by the other 16 U.S. intelligence agencies. The story keeps making the rounds in the media, naming no names to support the allegations, but fueling the fire to suggest Trump’s win was illegitimate.

Most analysts believe that any challenge to Trump’s win stands little chance of succeeding. One might ask how powerful this Russian influence has been–perhaps it was the Russians who told Hillary to call Trump supporters, “a basket of deplorables”?

Continue praying for the electors to stay true to the will of the people, that President-elect Trump hears from the Lord on his choices and decisions, and that the transfer of power will be smooth and peaceful.

Father, thank You for the privilege of living in a free country with democratic elections. Fight this battle for us that we might see Your hand at work in the victory.

Prov. 21:31 – The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the LORD.
