March for Life, 44 Years after Roe v. Wade

The March for Life is held each year in Washington to mark the anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. This year, Vice President Mike Pence spoke to the marchers. It’s the first time such a high-ranking U.S. official has done so. Joining Pence was Kellyanne Conway, one of President Trump’s top advisors. Both Pence and Conway are born-again believers.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Trump suggested that the crowd would be larger than expected. “You know, the press never gives them the credit that they deserve,” he told Republican lawmakers in Philadelphia, and added, “You won’t even read about it… It’s not fair, but [there’s] nothing fair about the media.”

One of the first orders the President signed was a ban on U.S. aid to foreign groups that provide or promote abortions.

Republicans in both chambers of Congress have promised to end federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides more than a third of the nation’s abortions. They will also work to ban abortions after 20 weeks. The President has promised to sign the legislation if it is approved.

Why this Matters: There was a Women’s March the day after the inauguration that did not allow pro-life groups to register. To get around that prohibition, Students for Life jumped to the front of the march (see photo below).

The Women’s March protestors didn’t seem to have a coherent message, but the March for Life was the opposite. And as the Vice President said, “life is winning again in America.” This week, President Trump will announce the name of a Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Scalia, who passed away nearly a year ago. He has promised to name a pro-life justice, which means the overturning of Roe v. Wade will at least be a possibility.

How to Pray: Ask God for a victory in the upcoming battle to get Trump’s pro-life nominee approved. Pray for women who have had abortions, and men who have been party to them, to be able to ask for forgiveness from God and to forgive themselves. May the Lord put an end to this vile law.

Deut. 30:19 – I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.
