Top Trump Adviser Michael Flynn Resigns

Trump’s National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn abruptly resigned Monday night. Flynn had spoken to the Russian ambassador several times before taking office and then misled the Vice President about the content of those calls. He said they were not discussing the sanctions President Obama had slapped on Russia over allegations the Russians had tampered with the election. The Washington Post reported last week hat Flynn had discussed the sanctions. This is a violations of the Logan Act, which prohibits private citizens from engaging in foreign policy affairs.

The Justice Department then informed the White House that it believed Flynn could be subject to blackmail. In his resignation letter, Flynn wrote that he “inadvertently” briefed top Trump officials with incomplete information regarding his call with the Russian ambassador. Flynn had already apologized privately to Vice President Pence for assuring Pence he had not discussed sanctions with the Russians. Transcripts were intercepted, showing Flynn had lied. Pence had defended him in television interviews and was upset about being misled.

President Trump has selected Lt. Gen. Joseph Keith Kellogg, Jr., as his acting national security adviser.

Three new cabinet members were confirmed: Steven Mnuchin as Treasury secretary, David Shulkin for Department of Veterans Affairs, and Tom Price as Health and Human Services secretary.

President Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe over the weekend; Melania Trump hosted Mrs. Abe at the “winter White House,” in Mar a Lago, Florida. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met with the President on Monday.

Why this Matters: An unnamed official said Flynn did not make any promises about lifting sanctions in those conversations, but said they would not necessarily carry over to the new administration. Flynn promoted taking a softer line with Russia in order to improve relations. One leading columnist described this as a “coverup without a crime.”

There is also much concern over the leaks of information: transcripts of private phone calls between President Trump and foreign heads of state and draft language for executive orders have all found their way into the media. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, has called the leaks which often target President Trump “unprecedented.” It shows there is an enemy within the White House.

How to Pray: Pray God exposes Trump’s “Haman” in the White House. Pray for President Trump that he would be able to execute his agenda that is so important to Christians and conservatives: preservation of life, fiscal responsibility, fair trade, and enforcing law and order, among other issues.

Ecc. 5:8 – If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they.

California’s Oroville Dam Near Collapse

About 200,000 people have been evacuated over concern there will be tremendous flooding due to the erosion and possible collapse of the Oroville Dam. Engineers worked Monday and Tuesday to fix the tallest dam in the U.S. before more rainfall. Crews were working to shore up an overflow channel and drain the reservoir, but it is not known when it will be safe for residents to return home.

The Oroville Dam is part of a water conveyance system that provides drinking water to more than two-thirds of California’s population. The governor is now asking the Trump administration for emergency assistance.

Why this Matters: The extended drought in California has lasted for seven years–plenty of time for the state to fix its water infrastructure. Instead, much of state funds have gone to pay benefits for illegals and fund state pensions that are at unsustainable levels.

Three environmental groups filed a motion in 2005 urging federal officials to require infrastructure improvements at the dam. The money was given to the state by taxpayers, in the form of bonds. According to one report, not a penny of the money received was allocated for water storage.

How to Pray: Pray for the people of California who don’t agree with the Leftist bent of their state, that they would have strength to persevere. Pray for those working on the dam, that they would be able to fix the issues and the crisis be averted.

Ps. 145:19 – He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
