Trump Accuses Obama Administration of Wiretapping

According to Heat Street, a Leftist media outlet, two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed that the FBI was granted a court warrant in October to wiretap the Trump campaign. Over the summer, the FBI applied for and obtained court orders to monitor four members of Donald Trump’s campaign team. These were people suspected of irregular contacts with Russians officials, according to the UK Guardian.

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) , chair of the House Intelligence Committee, reacted with outraged to the news, saying, “I expect the FBI to tell me what is going on, and they better have a good answer.” He has an issue with American citizens being recorded without their knowledge.

President Obama, through a spokesman, has denied that any such order to wiretap came from them, saying such as order would have come from “an independent investigation led by the Department of Justice.”

Early Saturday morning, President Trump tweeted:

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory,” he wrote on Twitter. “Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!”

He followed that tweet with:

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp [sic] my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy! Is it legal for a sitting President to be ‘wire tapping’ a race for president prior to an election? Turned down by court earlier. A NEW LOW!”

The New York Times reported in January that intelligence reports based on those wiretaps had been provided to President Obama, even though there was “no conclusive evidence of wrongdoing” between Trump, his associates, and Russian officials. On Sunday Mr. Trump asked for a congressional inquiry into President Obama’s abuse of power.

According to The New York Times, FBI director James Comey wants the Justice Department to publicly reject President Trump’s accusation that he was wire-tapped. Comey believes Trump’s claim is false and must be corrected in order to clear any implication that the FBI broke the law.

Justice Department officials have declined to comment on Comey’s request. The Times called this confrontation between Trump and Comey a “remarkable rebuke of a sitting president.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself on Thursday from all matters related to any investigation into connections between Trump and Russia. There are few senior officials at the Justice Department who can make the decision to release a statement related to any wiretaps. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper on Sunday denied any suggestion that the Trump Tower was wiretapped. Clapper said “there was no such wiretap activity,” but added, “I can’t speak for other authorized entities in the government or a state or local entity.”

On the other side, radio talk show host Mark Levin has claimed the evidence of wiretapping is overwhelming. He said, “The question is not whether [the Obama administration] spied. We know they went to the FISA court twice. The question is who they did spy on and the extent of the spying…”

Former Bush administration Attorney General Michael Mukasey said he believes Trump is right in that there was surveillance, and that it was conducted at the behest of the Justice Department through the FISA court. He also said that means there was reason to believe that someone in Trump Tower may have been an agent of the Russians.

Why this Matters: Existing law does not permit the NSA or FBI to listen to the communications of Americans; this is a violation of the Espionage Act. Attorney Larry Klayman, founder of Freedom Watch, said on Fox Business that he believes that those loyal to Obama and Clinton are behind the illegal surveillance of former Trump adviser Michael Flynn. It has long been known that the CIA hires and pays journalists to plant stories and direct the narrative.

How to Pray: For the President, that all evil against him will be exposed. God placed him as our president, and only God can preserve him. Pray for protection, wisdom and discernment, and that every evil device used against him will come to nothing.

Ps. 35:23-25 – Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.

Battle for Christian Liberty goes to Court

The ongoing battle between gay rights and religious liberty escalated Thursday when an Oregon couple took their fight to an appeals court. Aaron and Melissa Klein were co-owners of a bakery and ordered to pay $135,000 in damages for declining to make a cake for a same-sex wedding.

The fine was so large it cost them their business. “I loved my shop, and losing it has been so hard for me and my family,” Melissa said.

The judge also ordered the Kleins to “cease and desist” from speaking publicly about not wanting to bake cakes for same-sex weddings based on their Christian beliefs.

Why this Matters: The appeals judges are not expected to rule for several months. If they rule against the Kleins, the couple’s next step would be appealing to the Oregon Supreme Court.

How to Pray: That the appeals judges will rule in favor of Christian liberty and the Lord will restore double-fold everything the Kleins have lost.

Zech 9:12 – Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;
