Starbucks Customers Fight Company’s Leftist Agenda

When President Trump issued his first executive order affecting immigration, Starbucks vowed to hire thousands of refugees. Trump supporters are now using social media to call for a boycott, and it is working.

A firm that tracks consumers’ attitudes noted that Starbucks took an immediate hit after CEO Howard Schultz made his proclamation to hire 10,000 refugees over five years in the countries where it does business. The firms’ “buzz” score, which measures customers’ attitudes about Starbucks fell by two-thirds between January 29 and February 13. Since then, the score has not recovered. According to YouGov BrandIndex CEO Ted Marzilli, the significant drop in positive attitude indicates Starbucks’ new policy had a negative impact on sales.

Why this Matters: Starbucks reported an accelerated decline in traffic to their established stores during the last quarter of 2016. The company’s executives blame slow service at pull-through windows, however, Christians and other conservatives who don’t like Starbucks’ Leftist philosophy, began boycotting the retailer in earnest during the presidential campaign. The effect of the boycott will be known when sales figures for the quarter are released.

How to Pray: Praise God that He can use sales figures and customers’ opinions to make a point with hard-headed corporate giants. Our buying decisions do make a difference!

Jobs Numbers Looking Up!

On Friday, new employment numbers were released, and the news was better than anticipated. Employers added 235,000 workers to their payrolls in February. In January, the jobless rate fell from 4.8 percent to 4.7 percent, and average hourly earnings grew by 0.2 percent. Growth in the private sector, including construction jobs, were part of the boost.

Because this is a sign of a strengthening economy, analysts expect the Federal Reserve Bank to raise interest rates early this week.

Why this Matters: The hike in rates is long overdue, although any increase can make the markets and consumers nervous.

Pray for jobs to be plentiful and ask God to bless those in the Praying Citizen family who have recently found themselves unemployed. Pray that God will be faithful to supply all their needs and build their faith as they seek work. May they receive double for what they have lost.

Zech. 9:12 – Turn you to the strong hold, ye prisoners of hope: even to day do I declare that I will render double unto thee;

New Interior Secretary Rides to Work

John Zinke, a former House representative of Montana and former Navy SEAL, rode a horse to work for his first day of work as Interior Secretary on March 3. The horse, named Tonto, was provided for him by the U.S. Park Police, a division of the Department of the Interior.

Zinke’s first directive as secretary was to repeal an Obama executive order that barred the use of lead ammunition and fishing tackle on federal lands. He also signed an order directing agencies to look for ways to expand hunting, fishing, and recreation. A week ago, Zinke announced the DOI will offer 73 million acres of offshore lands for oil and gas exploration and development.

Why this Matters: President Trump plans to make the U.S. energy independent, but environmentalists are firmly opposed to offshore drilling. Some of them have called Trump’s environmental plans “racist.”

Pray for President Trump and his cabinet, for success in those things appointed by God, and failure when what they pursue is not on His agenda! Pray for the upcoming battle to get Neal Gorsuch confirmed as Supreme Court justice, and that preserving the lives of unborn children will become law.

Prov. 8:32 – Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

Mevlut Cavusoglu, in France, demands an apology from the Dutch government.

Battle for Turkey’s Future takes
Center Stage

Citizens of Turkey will vote on a referendum that seeks to boost the powers of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turks who live in other countries have been campaigning for Erdogan.

  • The Dutch government has banned Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkey’s foreign minister from entering the country. Cavusoglo had asked for permission to visit in order to rally votes for Erdogan. A crowd of 1,000 Erdogan/Cavusoglu supporters had gathered near the consulate in Rotterdam. When mounted police used dogs to try and break up the rally, people threw rocks at them.
  • Also affected by the ban was the Turkish family affairs minister. She was detained by Dutch authorities, kept from attending the rally, and then escorted to the German border.
  • Germany and other European nations also blocked similar campaign events. Erdogan called them fascists and “the vestiges of the Nazis.” He threatened to ban foreign flights from landing in Turkey and had the Dutch embassy and consulate sealed off.

Why this Matters: Turks will vote on April 16 to transform Turkey from a parliamentary democracy into a presidential system. Erdogan would then be able to continue in power until 2029. Opponents of the referendum fear his authoritarianism. Last summer, Erdogan fought off a coup attempt and shortly thereafter jailed journalists and other dissidents.

Erdogan rattled Europe when he traveled to Moscow last week. This diplomatic crackdown on Turkey is seen by some as punishment for Erdogan’s alignment with Russia. One analyst said that these bans on Turkish officials and the crackdown on rallies is illegal according to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Some believe that a peaceful solution in Syria depends on the West’s (NATO’s) relationship with Erdogan. For 17 years he has been promised membership the EU, and perhaps he has given up. Others believe that Turkey is the one blackmailing the EU because he controls the flow of refugees from Syria into Europe.

How to Pray: Father, as the prophetic clock seems to be moving faster and events happen one on top of the other, help us to keep our hearts and minds on Jesus, the author of faith. We pray for the salvation of those we love who don’t know Him, and for others who have walked away from Truth. Open their hearts to receive the Lord and His good plans for their lives.

Dan. 12:3 – And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament;
and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

    Why repeal a law that eliminates lead poisoning in our waters? I agree that too many laws are unnecessary but this one was in the right direction. There are others lures and weights that can be used without using lead. I really appreciate your site!
