Terror Attack Closes Down British Parliament

British police shot an assailant on Wednesday after he stabbed an officer at Britain’s Parliament. They are treating it as a terrorist incident, until they “know otherwise.” The attacker first drove his vehicle into a mob of pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, then crashed his car into a gate of the Houses of Parliament.

Five people were killed in the attacks, including the stabbed policeman and the attacker; 40 people were wounded.

Prime Minister Theresa May said that the attack was not an accident, but the terrorist planned to strike at the heart of the capital city where all people types of people come to celebrate liberty and democracy.

Islamists were celebrating the attack on social media, calling it the “blessed London attack” and saying, “Allah Akbar,” which means Allah is the greatest god. However, ISIS did not claim responsibility for the incident.

Why this Matters: This happened on the one-year anniversary of the Brussels attack where a truck plowed into pedestrians. Coincidentally, 68 world leaders were in Washington on Wednesday to discuss the battle against ISIS.

Pray for the families who lost loved ones, healing for the wounded, and continued protection for the police. Pray the Lord gives them strength and wisdom to do their jobs, and that all who have been affected by the attack will draw near to the Lord.

Rep. Adam Schiff (L) and Rep. Devin Nunes (Center)

Yes, Trump Team was Surveilled

House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) told reporters on Wednesday that members of Trump’s team, including possibly Trump himself, were under U.S. government surveillance. He said it appeared to be legal, but was not related to the FBI investigation into Russia’s supposed meddling in the presidential election.

Nunes said, “I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show that the president-elect and his team were, I guess, at least monitored.” He believes the information was gathered in “incidental collection,” and had little or no apparent intelligence value. There were multiple conversations surveilled that included many members of Trump’s transition team.

The fact that the identities of Trump aides were revealed in intel documents alarmed Nunes. This is also called “unmasking,” which Nunes called a profound irregularity.

Nunes says he received this information from individuals who came to him privately.

Adam Schiff (D-CA), a member of the House intelligence Committee, says Nunes didn’t share the same information with him. He added that unmasking is allowed in some situations. Schiff said the actions of the Chairman Nunes has jeopardized the investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

In a separate matter, former Trump adviser Paul Manafort has been accused of helping Vladimir Putin advance Russian interests in U.S. politics. Manafort’s spokesman says he did have business dealings with a Russia businessman from 2005 to 2009, but denies there was any effort to represent Russian political interests.

Why this Matters: Surveillance is permissible under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, but the unmasking of the identities of the Americans involved in the conversations is not allowed. What’s more, their names were published in an intelligence product, which was widely shared in the intelligence community. The exposure of Trump Adviser Michael Flynn’s conversation with a Russian diplomat was a felony.

Brits Ban iPads, Laptops from Flights

Britain has banned laptops from the cabins of flights coming from six Middle Eastern counties. ISIS and other terror organizations have developed the capability to hide a  bomb big enough to blow a hole in the side of a plane inside a laptop or tablet.

The U.K. ban will be phased in over several days and will affect travelers on direct flight to the U.K. from Turkey, Egypt, Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

President Trump recently imposed a ban on travel from Middle Eastern countries amid loud cries from Democrats, the media, and some Republicans; the ban is being contested in court. The British ban was imposed just hours after the U.S. ban was unveiled.

The intelligence information revealing this type of technology was discovered during a recent Navy SEAL raid on an al Qaeda headquarters. There were accusations that the raid was a failure, due to the death of William Ryan Owens, a SEAL team leader. However, President Trump insisted that they received “good” intel from it and were able to gather computer hardware.

Why this Matters: Border patrol and immigration agents continue to fight illegal immigration. The President plans to hire 15,000 new agents and has promised to let them do their job. The president of the union representing ICE agents said he appreciates the President’s steadfast support.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s government is warning Mexican companies against participating in the construction of the border wall. However, there will not be a law to prevent them. The U.S. has a government website with business opportunities for vendors who want to help construct the wall.

How to Pray: Pray for the immigration control system to be improved, for the safety of the agents and that they would have wisdom as they nab illegals and send them home.

Ps. 33:22 – Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.
