What Happened? GOP Budget Funds Planned Parenthood, But Not the Wall

Democrats and Republicans reached a budget deallate Sunday, which keeps the government running until September. Both sides are complaining that they didn’t get what they want, but most in Washington say that the Democrats came out on top. It seems that moderate Republicans worked with Democrats and the result is a high-dollar, low-value budget that does not reflect President Trump’s agenda and the campaign pledges that got him elected.
The new budget:
  • Funds sanctuary cities
  • Funds Planned Parenthood
  • Funds Obamacare
  • Raises by $2 billion funding for the National Institutes of Health instead of a $5.8 billion decrease Trump proposed
  • Maintains 99 percent of EPA funding, instead of the $2.6 billion cut Trump wanted
  • Raises defense spending less than half of the amount Trump requested
  • Contains no funding for the southern border wall
The bill for this budget comes to $1 trillion. The President’s team and Republican leaders are calling it a “win,” and so are the Democrats.
Why this Matters: It seems the Republican lawmakers have blown it again. We voted them in, asking for lower spending, smaller government, better national security, the rule of law, and pro-life policies. This budget addresses none of those things and continues the spending put in place under President Obama.
Pray that believers will be moved by God to wake up and seek the Lord for a change in policy! May our elected officials follow God’s directions–no excuses. May we see wonderful and significant changes for the budget coming in September. And may God get the glory!
Luke 18:7 – And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
Pray also for the families affected by the spring tornadoes that ripped through the south and midwest over the weekend. Fourteen people were killed and numerous homes were destroyed. May the Lord comfort all those who mourn and are afflicted.
Ps. 71:3 – Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
