Special Counsel Appointed to Investigate Trump

Comey-Mueller

The President is calling the on-going investigation into his alleged ties to Russian “the greatest political witch hunt in history.” This comes one day after a special counsel was appointed to investigate him. President Trump says that he is fine with whatever people want to do, but his administration must get back to running the country.

On Thursday, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced the appointment of a Robert Mueller, the former FBI Chief, as special counsel to head up the investigation of the President and possible collusion with the Russians during the election. Surprisingly, Rosenstein made the appointment without first notifying the White House.

The investigation has been going on for ten months, but not a single indictment has been handed down and no hard evidence has been revealed.

Earlier in the week, the media reported allegations by anonymous sources that Trump asked Comey to end the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn, saying “I hope you can let it go.” Mueller will also be looking into whether President Trump did this. Another part of the investigation will cover Flynn’s alleged improper conversation with a Russian official over the Christmas holiday.

Trump was asked by reporters on Thursday if he had told Comey to stop investigating Flynn. Trump replied that he had not. Interestingly, Comey was a protege of Mueller, who preceded him in office.

It was also recently reported that Flynn was under investigation for his ties to the Turkish government. Flynn had informed the transition team that he had worked secretly as a paid lobbyist for Turkey, but Pence–who was the head of the transition team–said on March 9 that he knew nothing of Flynn’s business dealings. Some are suggesting that Pence is lying.

Why this Matters: Because there has been no evidence after 10 months of searching, many conservatives wonder why the Department of Justice appointed a special counsel. After all, there have been many times when a special counsel could or should have been appointed but weren’t. These include:

  • When Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder was running guns through the ATF into Mexico under a failed program called Fast and Furious in which an ATF agent was killed by one of these guns.
  • When Hillary Clinton was mishandling classified information using a “home brew” computer server, but insisted she did no such thing.
  • When the IRS was targeting Christians and other conservatives and making it nearly impossible for them to get tax-exempt status.

Although Mueller is considered to be a great pick by Democrats as well as Republicans, this casts a cloud over President Trump. And if his investigation runs like those in the past, it will be painfully slow. In the meantime, the President’s domestic agenda of cutting taxes and building a border will likely go nowhere. Investors’ are not happy about this new development and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 372 points the day the special counselor was announced.

To make matters worse, there are unending rumors of a White House staff in disarray. Certainly, this is a debilitating and potentially dangerous time for President Trump. The Christians who helped get him elected should be on our knees begging God to intervene. If the President falls, our nation cannot be far behind.

Pray for protection and strength and that believers will come to the aid of our President, lifting him up in prayer and standing firm in our demand for truth. Pray that the mouths of these “lions” will be closed and whatever evil they devise for the President will be turned against them.

Ps. 55:22 – Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
