Four People Shot at GOP Ball Practice

Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) and three other people were shot by a gunman at an early morning baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday. Two Capitol Hill police officers were injured as they attempted to take down the shooter, and a congressional staffer for Texas Rep. Roger Williams was also shot. None of the victims suffered life-threatening wounds.

The gunman was described as a white, middle-aged male who fired between 50 and 100 rounds from a rifle. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) says a man who fit the description of the shooter asked if the people practicing were Republicans or Democrats. The shooter was eventually taken down by the police officers. His condition is not known.

The team was practicing for a charity match that was to take place against Democrat Congressmen on Thursday. Rep. Scalise is the House Majority Whip and third in line in the House.

Why this Matters: This is the second time in six years that members of congress were targeted by an attacker. The previous incident injured Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona. A North Carolina Representative told NBC News that the gunman was there to kill as many Republicans as possible.

How to Pray: For the healing of those who have been injured and for God to protect those who have been called to serve, both as politicians and law enforcement officers.
