President Welcomed in Poland with Shouts of “Donald Trump! USA!”

President Trump visited Warsaw, Poland on Thursday and the crowd, who identified with his nationalistic and hopeful stance, repeatedly broke out into chants of “Donald Trump!” and “USA, USA.” The President spoke at Krasinski Square, where some people held large blue signs that read, “Make Poland Great,” and others held Polish or American flags.

During his speech, the President affirmed the two nations’ shared alliance and announced that Poland had agreed to purchase the American-made PATRIOT Air Defense Missile System–a program that President Obama had canceled. Mr. Trump also thanked Poland for being one of the few NATO members who is spending the requisite two percent of their GDP on national defense, and he promised the U.S. is committed to mutual defense of all NATO members. Throughout his speech, the President promoted Western values and said, “The West will never, ever be broken.”

The President criticized Russia for its “destabilizing activities in Ukraine” and its support for hostile regimes including Syria and Iran. He urged Putin to join in the global fight against terrorism. Trump alluded to the fact that Russia supplies all of Poland’s energy, saying the U.S. would make sure they were “never again held hostage to a single supplier of energy.”

Two highlights for Christian conservatives were:

  • “As I stand here today before this incredible crowd, this faithful nation, we can still hear those voices that echo through history. Their message is as true today as ever. The people of Poland, the people of America, and the people of Europe still cry out ‘We want God’.”
  • “We can have the largest economies and the most lethal weapons anywhere on Earth, but if we do not have strong families and strong values, then we will be weak and we will not survive.”

Later during a press conference with the President of Poland, Trump was asked about Russian interference in the election. He refused to pin the blame on Russia, saying it could have been Putin’s government, but it could have been other people in other countries–no one knows for sure.

Why this Matters: This was a powerful speech, well-written, and important in the way Mr. Trump exhorted Western people to find the will and courage to preserve our civilization. It was the polar opposite of Mr. Obama’s speeches that promoted Islam, decried Western civilization, and apologized for America’s very existence.

As recent as last week, the former President was back in the public eye, in Indonesia slamming “aggressive nationalism” and it’s result in the increased resentment of minority groups. He never used Trump’s name, but denounced the “temporary absence of American leadership” related to the Paris Climate Accord and Trump’s decision to pull out. Sadly, Mr. Obama broke with tradition by openly criticize his successor.

Pray for the President and his team, for safety, wisdom, discernment. Thank God for a President who acknowledges the Lord and stands for traditional values.

Steve Scalise, the representative who was shot at a baseball practice was in and out of intensive care on Thursday. After another surgery to combat infection, his condition was upgraded to serious. Pray for his full healing, that all infections would die, and or the restoration of his hips and all movement to the lower half of his body.

Ps. 16:8-9 – I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
