Trump Offers Deal, Cancels Pelosi’s Trip

President Trump and Vice President Pence welcome new citizens in the Oval Office before he addressed the nation regarding border security.

On Saturday, President Trump addressed the nation about the shutdown, which is entering its second month, and the border security crisis. He gave the Democrats a few concessions for DACA recipients and other immigrants whose legal status is in flux, but House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was having none of it. At 4 p.m. on Saturday, five minutes before the President’s address, she released a statement calling his plan a “non-starter.”

Trump’s Proposal:

  • $5.7 billion for a steel barrier system, technology, and roads on the southern border in priority areas
  • $800,000 in humanitarian assistance, medical support, and new temporary housing
  • $805,000 for inspection technology, dogs, and personnel
  • $782 million to hire 2,750 border agents, law enforcement officers, and staff
  • $563 million for the courts, including hiring 75 judge teams to reduce the backlog of 800,000 cases
  • For the 300,000 illegals who are here under protected status because they fled unsafe conditions in their homelands, Trump offered a three-year extension. The same would be provided for the 700,000 DACA recipients who were brought to the US as kids by illegal adults.

Pelosi, Sen. Chuck Schumer, and other Democrats took to Twitter to defend their opposition to the President’s plan, calling it one-sided and ineffective. They call the President “unsympathetic” to federal workers and “not serious.”

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), who said the President is using the wall to prop up his “sagging poll numbers,” may be unaware that Trump’s numbers surged 19 percent among Latinos to a 50 percent approval rating.

Why this Matters: To gain the proper perspective on this, consider that $5.7 billion for the wall represents one-tenth of one percent of the federal budget. In the meantime, the provisions of the bill help deal with the tens of thousands of illegals attempting to cross into the US every month. In their ranks are thousands of trafficked women and children. Sometimes the children are “recycled” to get adults into the county. Most of the women (about 80 percent) are raped along the way.

How to Pray: For God to turn back the new caravans of immigrants now forming in Central America. Pray that the Democrats will lose their “faith” in their failed leaders and have a desire to negotiate with the President.

Nancy’s Failed Foreign Trip

Nancy Pelosi and a cadre of Democrats and their families, 93 in all, were planning on a world trip in the midst of the shutdown. They were taking an Air Force jet on what is known as a “Codel,” or Congressional Delegation.

President Trump caught the Speaker as she was leaving on the Air Force bus, headed for the airport with this letter:

Dear Madame Speaker,

Due to the Shutdown, I am sorry to inform you that your trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan has been postponed. We will reschedule this seven-day excursion when the Shutdown is over, In light of the 800,000 great American workers not receiving pay, I am sure you would agree that postponing this public relations event is totally appropriate. I also feel that, during this period, it would be better if you were in Washington negotiating with me and joining the Strong Border Security movement to end the Shutdown. Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.

I look forward to seeing you soon and even more forward to watching our open and dangerous Southern Border finally receive the attention, funding, and security it so desperately deserves!

Donald J. Trump

Why this Matters: While 800,000 federal employees are either working while having their pay deferred, or on furlough and not working, Pelosi justified taking a trip that would have likely cost the taxpayers $200,000.

Seems like her timing was off…

How to Pray: God promises to care for His children. Pray that government workers who don’t know the Lord will turn to Him in this difficult time, and that those who do know Him will increase their faith.

Phil 4:6-7 – Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
