President Trump spoke to a crowd of Venezuelan Americans on Tuesday at Florida International University in Miami, delivering a major foreign policy address. Venezuela is in the midst of a leadership crisis, where socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro is being challenged by pro-democracy politician Juan Guaido, who is calling himself the “interim president.”
The Trump administration has been making it clear that the US supports new leadership and an end to Maduro’s regime. To the audience he said,
“A new day is coming in Latin America, and socialism is dying across the world. We know that socialism is not about justice, it’s not about equality, it’s not about lifting up the poor–it’s about one thing only: power for the ruling class. And, the more power they get, the more they crave. They want to run health care, run transportation and finance, run energy, education, run everything. They want the power to decide who wins and who loses, who’s up and who’s down, what’s true and what’s false, and even who lives and who dies.”
The US has sent millions of dollars in humanitarian aid to the Columbia-Venezuela border, with the hopes of providing relief to the citizens of Venezuela. However, Maduro has the border blocked and will not allow the aid into the country. Nearly 90 percent of Venezuelans live in poverty and the inflation rate in 2018 was one million percent.
On Monday, the day before his speech, Trump repeatedly called on Venezuela’s military to rise up and take on Maduro. He said, “We seek a peaceful transition of power, but all options are open.”
Interim President Guaido has offered amnesty for military defectors.
Trump’s current campaign against socialism began during his state of the union address, when he declared that the US will never be a socialist country. His pronouncement angered the stone-faced Democrat lawmakers seated in the audience, many of whom refused to applaud his statement.
Socialism for the US in 2020?
The new crop of Democrat hopefuls lining up for the 2020 presidential campaign all support forms of socialism, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal.” This is the plan that requires every structure in America to be redesigned or rebuilt to be energy-compliant, and it essentially eliminates cars, fossil fuels, air transportation and “farting cows”—but provides wages for those who “cannot work or refuse to work.”
Bernie Sanders, 77, is the latest entry into the crowded 2020 field. He wants Medicare for all, free college tuition, and income equality. In 2016, Sanders would have been the Democrat nominee, except that the Democrat National Committee created “super delegates” whose votes over-rode the state delegates and threw the nomination to Hillary. Sanders sent out the first email fund-raiser of his campaign on Tuesday and says he received $3.3 million from 120,000 individual donors.
Democrats believe they will win on an anti-Trump message, trusting their efforts to label him as a “racist, sexist, homophobe” will prevail. On Tuesday, Trump declared a world-wide campaign to decriminalize homosexuality. The man he chose as US Ambassador to Germany is Richard Grenell, who is openly homosexual.
But Wait, There’s More…
Actor Jussie Smollett, 36, with the help of Fake News Media, leading Democrats, and Hollywood stars carried out what amounts to a hate crime against Donald Trump and his supporters. Smollett paid two Nigerian brothers to stage an attack on him. He called it a lynching, saying they wore “Make America Great Again” ball caps.
This was perfect timing, as Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA), Corey Booker (D-NJ) and Tim Scott (R-SC) pushed to pass an anti-lynching law in the Senate, make it a federal crime.
Smollett, who is a homosexual black man, made the rounds in news and entertainment media, crying on camera and decrying injustice in America and the elite piled on with cries against racism and homophobia (Smollett is black and homosexual). For weeks, social media was trending #JusticeforJussie.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi tweeted,
“The racist, homophobic attack on @JussieSmollett is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love. I pray that Jussie has a speedy recovery and that justice is served. May we all commit to ending this hate once & for all.”
Eventually, as the Chicago Police began investigating the “attack,” the hoax was exposed, and headliners such as Pelosi quietly deleted their tweets. The two Nigerians told Chicago police that Smollett had a threatening letter sent to himself on the set of the TV show Empire. After the letter failed to create a significant reaction, he arranged to be attacked.
A grand jury was convened on Tuesday, in which the brothers testified against Smollett. Case Update Wednesday: Jussie Smollett is now officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation by Chicago Police for filing a false police report (Class 4 felony). Detectives are currently presenting evidence before a Cook County Grand Jury.
Justice was swifter for Jussie in Hollywood. Scenes featuring Smollett in Empire have been drastically cut and his character is no longer the focus of his remaining four scenes.
Why this Matters: This is a dangerous, yet exciting time in our history, as we watch God expose evil and spotlight those who defend it.
How to Pray: That God would continue to expose the deeds of darkness. Pray that the light shining on good and justice will begin in the church among the body of Christ. Pray that believers will seek truth and pursue it.
Mark 4:21-22 – And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.
