The crisis at the border grew worse in May, with 144,278 migrants illegally trying to enter the US–including 11,391 people whose cases were deemed inadmissible by US law. Together, they reflect a nearly one-third increase over April—and a more than 600 percent increase over 2017.

The number of children brought here illegally this year is more than 230,000. All need care and many were brought with adults who “rented” them in order to gain entry; some are used over and over by migrants trying to game the system.

Threat Promotes Action

President Trump has the authority to impose tariffs and threatened Mexico with a five percent tariff to begin June 10. Those would increase five percent a month if steps weren’t taken to stop the flood of migrants. The Mexican government reacted this week by:

  • Announcing a plan to post 4,500-6,000 National Guard at the border with Guatemala
  • Scrambling to meet with US officials to come to a resolution.
  • Freezing the bank accounts of 26 people for their alleged involvement in human trafficking. The Mexican Financial Ministry called it part of a “widening migration clampdown.”

But that wasn’t enough and the President kept up the threats on Twitter. Friday evening, Mexico capitulated, and further measures were announced by both countries:

  1. Mexico will take “unprecedented steps” to stop illegal migration, human smuggling and trafficking, and to dismantle the financial and transportation network of the ringleaders.
  2. The US will immediately expand migrant protection protocols, and border officials will quickly return migrants to Mexico, where they will await a judge’s decision on their request for entry.
  3. Mexico will offer humanitarian refugees jobs, healthcare, and education while they stay in Mexico, awaiting the judges’ asylum decisions.

If this doesn’t work as expected, then both countries will implement stricter measures.

Additionally, the US and Mexico will work with the nations of Central America to promote their own prosperity, good governance, and security, thus eliminating the need for migrants to flee to the US.

More Good News

A federal judge rejected a request by House Democrats to stop President Trump from transferring funds to build his border wall. Judge Trevor McFadden ruled that one chamber of Congress cannot sue the executive branch over spending. He wrote:

“This is a case about whether one chamber of Congress has the ‘constitutional means’ to conscript the Judiciary in a political turf war with the President over the implementation of legislation.”

“The Judiciary cannot reach the merits of this dispute, it contends, because the Constitution grants the House no standing to litigate these claims. And while the Constitution bestows upon Members of the House many powers, it does not grant them standing to haul the Executive Branch into court claiming a dilution of Congress’s legislative authority. The Court therefore lacks jurisdiction to hear the House’s claims and will deny its motion.”

Two people associated with encouraging and funding the massive caravans of migrants were arrested by Mexican authorities: Pueblo Sin Fronteras (people without borders) leaders Irieno Mujica and Cristobal Sanchez. They were charged with asking for money in exchange for helping Hondurans cross into Mexico and move up to the US border.

The parent group called Centro Sin Fronteras receives funding from the George Soros-financed National Immigration Forum.

Why this Matters: Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost likens the crisis to “holding a bucket under a faucet. It doesn’t matter how many buckets you give me if we can’t turn off the flow.” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton estimates that 900,000 illegal immigrants voted in the 2018 midterm elections.

The House of Representatives, led by open borders advocates in the Democrat Party, passed a bill to give humanitarian protections to 2.7 million illegals who are already residing in the US. Not only do the US taxpayers foot the bills for their education, healthcare, and basic necessities, but the “Dream Act” prevents law enforcement from identifying violent criminals and deporting them. It also provides $0 for border security.

Open borders guarantee a giant new voting block for leftist politicians! Praise God the bill is dead in the water and will not be considered by the Republican-controlled Senate.

How to Pray: May our Father direct and guide the President in the way he should go to continue to put pressure on Mexico, to continue building the wall, and to fight open border policies in Washington. Pray for the safety of our border agents and all law enforcement. Lift up the truly needy refugees and pray for God’s intervention in their situations. May they turn to the Salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Ps. 32:8-11 – I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way thou shalt go; I will guide thee with my eye.

[Don’t be like horses and mules which need bits and bridles to control]

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusts in the Lord , mercy shall compass him about.

Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy all ye that are upright in heart.
