The 2020 field of Democrat Presidential Candidates
This week saw the first set of debates for the Democrat candidates for the 2020 presidential election. Ten candidates debated on Wednesday night, and another ten on Thursday night. On Thursday, they were all asked if all 11 to 22 million undocumented foreigners living in the US should receive taxpayer-funded healthcare. Every single one raised their hand.
You might be surprised to learn that American taxpayers are already paying nearly $20 billion to provide healthcare for 3.9 illegal immigrants, according to the Center for Health Policy and Inequalities Research at Duke University.
- $4.6 billion paid by federal taxes
- $2.8 billion through state and local taxes
- $1.5 billion through “cost-shifting,” which means that insured patients pay higher prices to cover hospitals’ and physicians’ charity cases
- $0.9 billion in federal subsidies to tax-exempt nonprofit hospitals
- $5.7 billion in tax-expenditures from the employer tax exclusion
Americans cross-subsidized $11.2 billion in 2016, but $18.5 billion in 2018.
Are you sick yet?
Aside from those costs, Americans pay about $1.2 billion in maternity costs annually through Medicaid, and about $3.4 billion for Medicaid fraud, according to the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
The President tweeted his opinion from the G20 Summit in Japan:
“All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited healthcare. How about taking care of American Citizens first!? That’s the end of that race!”
$4.6 Billion in Emergency Aid
Congress just authorized $4.6 billion to be sent to the border to take care of the humanitarian needs of the people being held in detention centers while their cases are being decided. This victory was not without a fight. Lawmakers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) refused to vote for either the House bill or the Senate bill because both contained some money for immigration control.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in a photo-shoot June 24, 2018, staged to suggest she is in “anguish” over the border crisis. (Note the empty parking lot)
- In addition, Cortez campaigned on Twitter for the #WayfairWalkout to protest Wayfair home goods company because they are selling beds and bedding to the detention centers. AOC wanted the profits to be donated to RAICES, a nonprofit that helps immigrants gain entry into the US. The CEO stood firm while 547 employees walked off the job.
- On Thursday, Bank of America joined the effort and announced they were cutting off all relationships with companies that provide prisoner and immigrant detention services at the federal and state levels.
Why this Matters: The Senate and the House will now aim to work toward a bill that they can agree on before they break for Independence Day. Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services says existing funding will not last through the end of the month. The President wants Congress to close loopholes and refine immigration laws.
SCOTUS Says No to Citizenship Question
The Trump administration wants a citizenship question on the 2020 census, but were turned down by the Supreme Court. The ruling on Thursday stated the administration did not give an adequate reason for its argument that the question was needed to enforce the Voting Rights Act.
This was a surprise win for those who argue that asking a person’s status will lead to an inaccurate population count—they say people who are undocumented will be afraid to be counted.
The justices sent the issue back to the Commerce Department for more work.
The President responded by tweeting:
Twitter, Facebook Censor Conservatives
Warning Label to be Added to POTUS’ Tweets
- Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, announced a new plan to mark “controversial content or behavior which may otherwise violate our rules” with a warning panel. It will hide a content that has a “legitimate public interest,” and users will have to click past it to see the post. Twitter will also limit the spread of these “objectionable” tweets. The tweets of President Trump, conservatives, and Republicans are said to be the target for this new policy. Just in time for the 2020 campaigns?
Facebook Helped Legalize Abortion in Ireland
- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted during a conference this week that he blocked pro-life ads on his platform before an important referendum on legalizing abortion in Ireland.
- The social media giant claims their decision to remove the ads was based on election laws in Ireland that do not allow contributions from foreign donors. They removed several pro-life ads paid-for by people in the United Kingdom and the United States. The referendum was passed and in January, abortion became legal.
- A whistleblower from Google says YouTube did the same thing and blacklisted pro-life search results related to the referendum.
How to Pray: Father God will make a way, when there seems to be no way! Begin thanking Him now for ending the crisis at the border, perfecting our immigration laws and policies, and for putting a stop to rampant censorship of Christians and other conservatives. Thank Him for doing for us what we cannot do for ourselves.
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.
