Pelosi’s House Votes to Impeach

Watch on YouTube

Wednesday night, the House of Representatives passed two articles of impeachment against President Trump. The vote was anything but bi-partisan. No Republicans voted for impeachment, two Democrats voted against both articles, a third voted against just one, and another Democrat voted “present.”

Speaker Pelosi called this a solemn, grave, and prayerful exercise and wore black to mark the occasion. Apparently, some of her fellow lawmakers didn’t get the message.

  • When Pelosi gaveled the results, she glared “don’t you dare” at her caucus, who began to send up a cheer.
  • Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) recorded herself walking through the Capitol building on her way to vote, grinning and laughing.
  • Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) went on CNN and opined that President Trump should have “a fair trial, then be hanged.”

Speaker Pelosi has not taken any action since the vote. She warned that the House may choose to not transmit the articles of impeachment to the Senate—out of concerns the Republicans, who hold the majority, will not conduct impartial proceedings at a trial. The irony is the House proceedings weren’t fair: Democrats didn’t allow the President representation, they didn’t permit him to call witnesses, and the testimony was based on second- and third-hand information.

The day before the vote, President Trump sent Mrs. Pelosi a letter presenting his arguments against impeachment, saying:

  • “The Articles of Impeachment introduced by the House Judiciary Committee are not recognizable under any standard of Constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence. They include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever.”
  • “Speaker Pelosi, you admitted just last week at a public forum that your party’s impeachment effort has been going on for ‘two and a half years,’ long before you ever heard about a phone call with Ukraine.”
  • Before the Impeachment Hoax, it was the Russian Witch Hunt.
  • “You are the ones interfering in America’s elections.”
  • “Our Founders feared the tribalization of partisan politics, and you are bringing their worst fears to life.”

While the impeachment vote was being taken, President Trump held a rally in Battle Creek Michigan. His campaign director determined that 17 percent of the audience were Democrats. Trump’s campaign has added 600,000 donors and raised $10 million in small contributions since the impeachment proceedings began. A new poll shows he is leading his 2020 opponents by 6 points.

Democrat Rep. Jeff Van Drew, one of the “no” votes, has formally switched his party affiliation to Republican.

What’s Next?

Legal analyst Conrad Black, writing in National Review, suggested that because of the severe divide in the legislature, a decision about impeachment may end up being determined by the Supreme Court:

  • “The preferable next step would be for the Senate to ask the Supreme Court to determine whether the four grounds cited by the Constitution for removal of a president are exclusive, and accordingly this impeachment bill need not be tried, or those categories are merely illustrative–and Gerald Ford was correct when he said impeachment can be for any reason the majority in the House of Representatives determines.”
  • “I believe it is clear that the authors of the Constitution did not want a president removed anything less than a high crime…”

IG Report Fallout

The Inspector General found 17 critical mistakes or errors in the FBI’s “Operation Crossfire Hurricane,” the investigation of Trump-Russian collusion. IG Horowitz did not want to speculate if these were by accident, or motivated by a desire to destroy Donald Trump’s presidency—although he did admit there was political bias in the communications among FBI/DOJ personnel.

Attorney General William Barr, in an interview with Martha McCallum on Fox News, talked about ongoing investigations and how high the scheme went. He revealed:

  1. Special Prosecutor John Durham is dealing with matters beyond the FBI that reach into other government agencies and to private actors. He is looking at actions done both before and after the election.
  2. Former FBI Director James Comey, who said he didn’t know what was happening during Operation Crossfire Hurricane (because it was 7 layers below him) wasn’t telling the truth.
  3. It goes very high in the Obama Administration. Barr said, “They pulled the investigation up to the executive floors and it was run and bird-dogged by a very small group of very high level officials. The idea this was seven layers below [Comey] is simply not true.”

FISA Court Knew and Did it Anyway

The warrants issued to surveil Trump aids Carter Page and George Papadapolous were based on fraudulent information, according to the IG report. Not only that, the FBI knew about the fraudulent requested warrants anyway.

  • Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said the House Intelligence Committee sent two letters to the FISA court, one in February 2018 and one in the summer of 2018 to warn them of the fraud. The court was notified that “source 2” wasnot legitimate, and neither was the dossier or stories in the news that were used as predicates to justify spying on Americans. They approved the spying anyway.
  • What’s more, the FBI started spying before they got the warrant and had exculpatory evidence to prove people’s innocence, but didn’t include that in the FISA requests to the court. Nunes told McCallum of Fox News, “Your viewers need to know the [FISA] court is culpable in this madness also.

How to Pray: For God to guide and direct the steps of the President, shepherd this impeachment travesty through the channels He chooses, and bring forth all truth–exposing crimes and bringing justice and judgment.

2 Chron. 16:9 – For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

Prov. 16:7 – When a man’s ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

  1. maybe it’s time for all people to put a line in the sand, to rethink the direction life is taking, to recall the words of Jesus, love your enemies, and to set an example that is life giving for all children, not just for those who we give special favor to, a new world order, and a fund to support any third party who wants to stand against both parties, a choice in other words.
