Virus Shutdown Continues Until April 30

President Trump, has been addressing the nation daily regarding the coronavirus and the actions necessary to combat the “invisible enemy.” Border and travel restrictions will remain in place and Americans have been advised to plan on staying home except for essential purposes until April 30 at least. He called next month a “very vital 30 days.”

Mr. Trump hopes that the country will be back in business by June 1. He believes the economy will come “roaring back.”

  • More than one million Americans have been tested for coronavirus.
  • Abbott Labs has developed a self-administered test that can deliver a positive result in five minutes and a negative result in under 15 minutes. They have pledged to deliver 50,000 tests a day.

The virus is expected to peak in two weeks. The worst contagion is in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut where 1,500 people have died since March 1.

These steps are being taken to help the hardest-hit areas:

  • The Army Corps of Engineers has converted the Javits Center for the Performing Arts in New York into a hospital.
  • A field hospital has been set up in Central Park by Samaritan’s Purse (Franklin Graham) and Mt. Sinai Health System.
  • The US Navy ships Comfort and Mercy have been outfitted as hospitals to care for 1,000 non-virus patients. The USNS Comfort has been sent to New York and the USNS Mercy to Los Angeles.

The Treatments

A combination of chloroquine plus antibiotics (to fight secondary infections) is is proving very effective, according to some doctors. This an anti-malaria drug is also marketed as an anti-inflammatory under the name Plaquenil. Some governors have issued orders to make chloroquine illegal to prescribe, even though the FDA has released it for emergency use.

“Convalescent plasma” is a second treatment, which involves taking plasma from recovered coronavirus patients and transfusing it into those who contract the disease and are extremely ill. They can receive this treatment by participating in clinical trials.

PPE – Personal Protection Equipment Supplies

Under the Defense Production Act, the President can order manufacturers to produce what’s needed, but he told reporters this has not been necessary.

  • Masks – The President said a process to sterilize masks is being developed so they can be reused.
  • Mr. Trump also questioned the inexplicably huge number of masks used in several places. For example, one hospital that runs at nearly 100% capacity–regardless of the flu season–went from using 10k to 300K masks. He called on reporters to investigate.
  • Ventilators – Ford Motor Company and GE will be making 50k ventilators in the next 100 days.
  • President Trump complained that many of the states are stocked up with ventilators, but they won’t admit it or share with hospitals in extreme need. He blamed some hospital chains for “holding them up” and warned they cannot do that. There is some price gouging, with the normal cost of a ventilator at $20,000 now costing $50,000.
NOTE: 3,100 deaths from Coronavirus as of March 31; the seasonal flu affects between 9 million and 45 million per year–with 12,000 to 61,000 deaths. The flu season ends in May.

$2.2 Trillion Aid Package

Congress passed a gigantic aid package worth $2.2 trillion and President Trump signed it into law. Americans can expect checks in the next three weeks worth $1200/adult plus $500 per child, depending on income level.

  • Two of the country’s largest health insurers—Humana and Signa—announced they will waive copays, coinsurance, and deductibles for coronavirus treatments.
  • The President allowed the Secretary of Defense and the Secretaries of the Navy, Army, and Air Force to call up military reserves, as many as 1 million members, not to exceed 24 months.

Why this Matters: There are reports that many deaths reported as coronavirus are co-morbidities (several underlying diseases) and heart attacks or other fatalities are also being lumped in as coronavirus deaths.

President Trump said he was told that without any efforts to contain the virus, as many as 2.2 million Americans could have died. He also warned that the precautions taken to combat this enemy must not be worse than the virus itself.

How to Pray: God is merciful, but he is also righteous and he does not allow the guilty to go unpunished. This is a good time for repentance for personal sins and iniquities and for those of our nation. Pray also for the truth about the situation to be exposed and for God’s protection to be the PPE that every front-line responder and healthcare worker needs. The fervent effectual prayers of a righteous person avails much!

Numbers 16:46, 50 – And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.

And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.

Mark 5:34 – And [Jesus] said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
