President Trump Acquitted 43-57

At noon on Saturday, it looked as though Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), would be responsible for the impeachment 2.0 getting a new life. Instead of voting to acquit, the Senate was considering calling witnesses!

The about-face came when Beutler re-confirmed that she had a conversation with Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) about a phone call on January 6. She said the House Minority Leader reached President Trump during the breach of the Capitol and asked him to call off his supporters. According to Beutler, the president said it was Antifa, not his supporters doing the damage, adding, “Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are.”

Predictably, this second-hand hearsay that had already been reported in January, was recycled and headlined in the media Friday night. There’s every indication the opposition party was looking for a plot-twist to counter the effective arguments made by the Trump defense team during the day.

Saturday morning, the Democrats and five Republicans voted to call witnesses.

Let Them Eat Quail

The five Republicans voting to call witnesses included Susan Collins (ME), Lindsey Graham (SC), Lisa Murkowski (AK), Mitt Romney (UT) and Ben Sasse (NE). Like the children of Israel who craved meat in the wilderness, Sen. Graham was in favor of giving the Democrats what they asked for–in a way they’d regret. Graham said that he voted for witnesses so that he could call the FBI, who would testify that the attack was preplanned. He added that he’d drag it out as long as possible to keep Democrats from enacting their agenda.

The word quickly spread that Republicans would like to call hundreds of witnesses.

  • Some suggested Speaker Pelosi and Vice President Kamala Harrisshould be called to explain their public encouragement of violent Antifa/BLM rioters who have been wreaking havoc and injuring law enforcement officers since May.
  • Sen. Cruz thought Pelosi should be asked why she turned down having extra support that day from the National Guard.
  • Pelosi and DC Mayor Muriel Bowser did not request additional law enforcement support, and in fact, discouraged it, even though President Trump ordered that 10,000 troops be ready for January 6 after the FBI reported that Antifa and other groups were planning an attack.

What Happened to Officer Brian Sicknick?

The Democrats’ “armed insurrection” narrative rested on the purported murder of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. News outlets reported that he was bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher by Trump supporters. His remains laid in state in the Capitol last week.

Now it appears that story was a hoax. Sicknick texted to his brother several hours after the riot, saying he was safe and in “good shape,” even though he had been pepper sprayed twice.

It wasn’t until the next evening that Sicknick died, not related to injuries he sustained, but from an apparent stroke. The autopsy results remain pending and his body was cremated. One wonders if we’ll ever know what really happened.

There was barely a whisper of a correction to the original story, and the House managers prosecuting the President continued to erroneously use the phrase “armed insurrection” based on Sicknick’s death.

  • Four other people, all Trump supporters, died January 6 due to health emergencies such as heart attack or stroke.
  • Two Capitol Police officers that died after the attack allegedly committed suicide.

It seems that the thought of 300 witnesses and the weakness of their case got to the House managers. They agreed that in exchange for Rep. Beutler’s hearsay statement being added to the official trial record, no witnesses would be called.
Finally Saturday afternoon, the Senate voted 43 to 57 to acquit; a two-thirds majority was needed for impeachment.
Sen. McConnell (R-KY) followed the acquittal by insisting Trump is still guilty, suggesting he be charged criminally.

Republicans who voted to impeach: Collins (ME), Murkowski (AK), Romney (UT), Sasse (NE), Toomey (PA), and Cassidy (LA).

Why this Matters: The single article of impeachment alleged President Trump incited an insurrection when he said, “We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
He also said in the same speech, “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

Political Theater

The House declined to hold an investigation that might have included the words of his speech before voting to impeach—because their case was a farce. Going in, they knew that there never was, and likely would never be, enough support to get Trump impeached in the Senate. Politicians like McConnell just want to make sure we know that they will never allow us to have another president like Trump ever again.

We will never forget what our President has done to preserve and protect life and freedom. And in this year of discovery, the progressive agenda and its proponents are being exposed and crumbling.

One of the loudest and most corrupt is NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo. His aide was recorded in a 2-hour conversation admitting that they “froze” the numbers of Covid deaths because they were afraid of being investigated by the feds. In March, Cuomo ordered sick patients be sent back into nursing homes following hospitalization for the virus. They hid the actual number of deaths by 50 percent.

Cuomo is one of five governors who did this, and he is now facing calls to resign or face a recall vote. It is possible that Cuomo and the other governors will face criminal indictment.

An effort to recall California Governor Gavin Newsom has reached the minimum number of signatures needed to trigger a recall election. The issues are his severe lockdowns, which affected churches, gun restrictions, and immigration.

How to Pray: Thank God for this acquittal! Praise Him for continuing to light up the darkness and expose the enemy’s activity. Pray that God will use this current presidency to continue His heaven-sent agenda.

For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. Ecclesiastes 12:14
