If you ever watch videos on social media platforms such as YouTube, you’ve probably run into today’s prophets. There are some you may enjoy listening to and come away encouraged and hopeful. When they prophesy future events, you will also find that some are more accurate than others. They all promise that God is going to “get the bad guys” and bring blessings to his people–and that’s absolutely true, according to the Bible.
If that’s NOT you, but you know someone to whom this applies, please share this message with them.
What does the Bible Say about Prophets?
Jeremiah 28:9 says a prophet’s words must be proven true or what he says is not from the Lord. The punishment for presumption at that time was death. Some argue that the New Testament says accuracy doesn’t matter because of 1 Cor. 13:9 – For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But that doesn’t mean part is right and part is wrong, it means it’s not complete. It’s one of the constituent parts of a whole.

In Acts 2:17-18, we’re reminded that in the last days God will pour out His Spirit, and our sons and daughters will prophesy. That’s certainly true if you tune into YouTube!
- Some of these prophets post several videos each week.
- God wakes them up in the middle of the night to give them a word—and they cheerfully endure sleep deprivation because the message is that vital.
- Others take trips to Heaven on a daily basis, or share dreams and visions.
To a person, they seem to be sincere, caring individuals–so this is not a personal attack on any of them.
Our purpose here is to break down these messages so you can judge them for yourself. We have reviewed a video from Joseph Z because it is a good example of the pattern many prophets follow. In this one, he cites Scripture meant to encourage the listener and gives warnings for the evil globalists (just like what’s written in your very own Bible!)
He also provides:
- Predictions
- Signs
- Directions from God
- Promises of prosperity
Mr. Z’s Predictions
Some predictions are plain and others are very obscure. In the plain category:
- God is going to thwart the globalists’ agenda
- Dark leaders of this world have rejected God, but justice is coming
The obscure predictions range from things like “Days of glory are going to be seen over you, the nation, and the world,” whatever that means, to real head-scratchers like:
- A new voice is rising
- Historical change and victory are on the horizon
- Righteousness shall rise, victory shall have its day
- God is going to radically shake the wisdom of this world
If you look at the words, without the intense emotion of the prophet, there’s not much to go on. Please note that we are only providing highlights of his 42 minute prophecy. You can listen to all of it here.

Three Earthquakes
Mr. Z’s marquee prediction in this two-week-old video is that severe weather is coming, including three major earthquakes and “challenges from the North, South, East and West.” What’s new? Every year we have severe weather–from snowstorms and ice storms in the winter, to floods and storms in the spring and summer.
Three earthquakes are said to be signs that God is shaking globalist institutions and pushing them back. There were 86 “significant” earthquakes in 2021, according to the US Geological Survey. We’re on par to meet or exceed that number this year. And unless Mr. Z is predicting three earthquakes that take out entire cities, he’ll have dozens of earthquakes this year alone to fulfill his prophecy.
He also claims to have predicted the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Take a look at the headlines below, dated back to 2010, way before Mr. Z was prophesying. Many of us voted for Donald Trump in 2016 because we knew he would appoint conservative justices to the Supreme Court. We might even say that overturn of Roe was an easy one to predict.

Signs
Akin to the vague predictions are the “signs,” of change that’s coming. They include a slew of one-liners (from 16:33 minutes into the video until 18:11):
- Red skies
- Imagery of the Statue of Liberty and other monuments
- Farmers and train conductors will rise up
- Ships
- Political fire
- Hillary and Madonna
- Benjamin Netanyahu
Another sign is that when the Queen of England dies, there will be transfers of land. Even if that comes to pass, so what? It might sound cynical, but we would like to know why God would use Hillary, red skies, or the Statue of Liberty to communicate important truth to his people.

Daily Horoscope?
Then there are the prophesies that sound like horoscopes, the kind we all learned as new believers to stay away from. He says these are words from God directed to a broad audience:
- I am going to open doors before you so walk through them. I’m changing your footing, I’m changing your relationships, I’m changing the scenery.
- Do what I ask you to do. Don’t attempt to make others understand.
- God is moving you from the pathway of people, don’t fight him in it. He’ll make an avenue for you.
- You are experiencing demonic warfare but visitations from God are coming to confront that. God says, I will confound the wise.
Take a look at the above example of a horoscope and compare it to his prophecy. Take God out, and they are very similar.
Promises of Prosperity
Next, we have promises of prosperity for those who will press into Jesus. This includes freedom from all of your debt, a monetary increase, and favor. Mr. Z says that God is going to finance you through unprecedented wealth transfers. If you “give up to go up,” he promises:
- You’re going to get everything you ever wanted.
- God is bringing great victory to you right now.
He paraphrases Mark 10:30, saying “God says, ‘I will give you back 100x as much IN THIS LIFETIME as you give me.’ He left out the part that says it’s with persecutions, and that Jesus was talking to the disciples who literally left everything to follow Jesus. Did they die wealthy men, or did they die as martyrs like the Master?
Mark 10:29-30 – And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel’s, But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Note: We consider this to be dangerous! We hope that no one goes out and takes on a bunch of new debt, believing it’s going to be magically forgiven–or make decisions based on the belief that gobs of new money is coming in. Yikes!

The Bible warns of false prophets. Satan masquerades as an angel of light and can sound like the Holy Spirit or a messenger from God. That’s why we are to test the spirits (1 John 4:1). What happened to prophets warning God’s people about sin and repentance? That seems to be reserved only for the evil globalists.
Here’s a test. Before listening, you may want to ask yourself these questions:
- Why am I drawn to this prophet?
- Do I often crave a fresh word from God and expect to get it from a prophet?
- Am I first getting my spiritual direction from God, or from prophetic voices like this one?
Note: YouTube allows you to see the transcript of the video. Test it by reading instead of listening, so you’re not unduly influenced by a theatrical or emotional presentation. See if you can find any real “nuggets” in the prophecy.
Jesus said that the Spirit of God will teach us what we need to know and bring what God has said into our remembrance. That can happen while listening to someone on YouTube, but it might be a more fresh, personal word if you found it through reading your Bible and in prayer.
- Be especially wary of prophets who have marketing plans who want your time and your money to build an empire disguised as a ministry.
- Mr. Z wants your tithe, which he’ll use to finance his rescue of the “young lions,” of this generation. He sells his new book and offers an app, plus you can text “give” to support his ministry.
- More important, would he be willing to deliver a stern message from God about sin and repentance if he is depending on you to feed his family?
Remember, people do not want the truth. That’s why, historically, prophets were imprisoned, stoned, beheaded and crucified–a far cry from the popularity and plush income through advertising, donations, and product sales received by today’s prophets.
How to Pray: That God would show you how to spend your time and which, if any, prophet you should follow. May He speak to us all through His Word and direct our lives through His Holy Spirit.
Is. 30:9 – That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of the LORD: Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits:
Luke 4:24 – And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.
Acts 7:52-53 – Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.
2 Tim. 4:3-4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
I think also very important is to google them and learn all you can about their background/lifestyle, etc. I think lifestyle can also be a very important measuring rod, are they walking the walk? How long, and who are they in fellowship with and accountable to.
