
Her responses go against Planned Parenthood guidelines. Their literature advises that to “abort a child is medically inaccurate because the fetus is not yet a child.” They also say that even though the unborn child is a life, it is not yet a person.
Rebecca Kiessling, the spokeswoman for the Personhood Alliance, which opposes abortion, said that defining fetuses as persons should mean that they are entitled to a right to life under the 14th Amendment. She considered Mrs. Clinton’s comment to be a “big gaffe” from the abortion rights perspective.
Why this Matters: the winner of the presidential election will choose the next Supreme Court justice(s.) The Court is evenly split liberal and conservative. Every conservative cultural issue–from same-sex marriage, to religious freedom, to freedom of speech, to gun rights–may be brought up before the Court. If we are to hang onto the rights we have now, and possibly even roll the laws back, it is absolutely essential we elect a conservative President.
