His tweets say it all. President Trump announced via Twitter on Wednesday that his administration would enforce a ban on transgenders in the military.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow…Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming… victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you,”
This reverses a decision by the Obama administration in 2016 to allow transgenders to serve openly. That decision, in effect, forced the U.S. taxpayers to pay for their medications and gender reassignment surgeries.
A report by the RAND corporation that says there are between 1,320 and 6,630 transgenders currently serving in all branches of the military (out of a total of 1.3 million service members). The report estimates that the cost for surgeries would be miniscule.
The announcement by the President surprised many, since the administration recently put a moratorium on decisions related to transgenders in the military for six months to study the issue. It has not yet been announced how the ban will be implemented.
Why this Matters: As one reporter noted, the President’s ban preserves America as a two-sex society–and the Left is reliably irate. A transgender former Navy SEAL says the President is preventing soldiers from doing their service.
A quick search on Google nets zero positive reports on this important ban, yet gives pages of articles pushing back against it. Most of these articles ridicule the President’s assertion that there are “tremendous medical costs.” They point to the RAND estimate of between $2.4 million and $8.4 million to handle all of the medications and surgeries.
However, many Christians believe that spending even one penny of our tax dollars on this ungodliness is too much–not to mention it implies our approval and agreement that this is a viable option for anyone who is struggling with their identity. How to Pray: This is a time to be on our knees thanking God for giving the President courage to impose this ban, and asking that a multitude of other scientific findings supporting it will be widely reported.
