Justice Amy Coney Barrett Confirmed! Another Pro-Life, Pro-God Voice

The Left has lost their battle to keep Amy Coney Barrett from her assignment as America’s newest Supreme Court Justice. The Senate soundly approved her nomination 54 to 48, and she was sworn in Monday night. Barrett is an anomaly: a mother of seven school-aged children—including two adopted from Haiti and one child with special needs–as well as a judge and law professor. She is not a Harvard or Yale graduate, but was trained and teaches at Notre Dame University.

Democrat senators fought tooth and nail to keep Barrett from the bench, claiming fraud and illegitimacy due to the timing being so close to the election. They also claim that Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dying wish should have been honored—that no one take her place until after the election. However, she also stated in reference to the confirmation of an Obama Supreme Court nominee, “The president is elected for four years not three years, so the power he has in year three continues into year four.”

Amy President Trump continues to hold office until inauguration day in late January, regardless of who wins the election.

Why They Hate Her

There is no end of pure hatred for Barrett. The Left despises Barrett’s pro-life stance, her practice of charismatic Catholicism, and the size of her family. But they are especially repulsed by Barrett’s originalism, which means she interprets the Constitution as it was understood at the time it was written. The other viewpoint favors changing the law to reflect a changing society. It was this type of revisionism that equated Obama-Care to a tax–which made compulsory healthcare lawful. It is revisionism that also made same-sex marriage the law of the land.

But the Left’s worst fear is for the fate of abortion. They worry that Justices Barrett, Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, and Kavanaugh will overturn Roe v. Wade, returning the decision about abortion to individual states. The mainstream media is taking that a step further, warning the Supreme Court will move to outlaw birth control and in vitro fertilization, due to the necessity to implant multiple embryos to ensure success, then aborting the “extras.”

Democrats such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others in “the squad” of socialist-leaning young female representatives promise to “pack the court” as retribution for Barrett’s confirmation, if Democrats gain control of the Senate. This means they want to expand the number of Supreme Court Justices, with a President Biden appointing enough liberal justices to tip the scales in their favor.

  • Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decried the “undoing of the system of checks and balances,” and warned when in power, Democrats would pack other courts as well.
  • Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) wrote: “By expanding the court we fix this broken system and have the court better represent the values of the American people.”
  • Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) chastised the GOP Senate for confirming Barrett, saying “We won’t forget this.” But neither she nor former Vice President Joe Biden will say one way or the other on packing the court.

They are right in one sense: Barrett’s confirmation is historic and consequential. She is the third justice to have been seated during President Trump’s first term, capping off a mass of 220 federal justices confirmed by the Senate during his first term. Many of them are younger, and presumably, all are dedicated to honoring the original intent of the Founders. Their presences on the bench will affect our nation for decades to come.

A Justice’s Preference Doesn’t Matter

In her confirmation speech, Justice Barrett reminded Americans of the differences between the roles of legislators and justices: “It is the job of a senator to pursue her policy preferences… It is the job of a judge to resist her policy preferences.” She added, “Federal judges don’t stand for election. Thus, they have no basis for claiming that their preferences reflect those of the people.”

“The oath that I have solemnly taken tonight means at its core that I will do my job without any fear or favor, and that I will do so independently of both the political branches and of my own preference,” Barrett affirmed.

Why this Matters: Amy Coney Barrett endured a grueling confirmation process with grace and dignity. She fielded harsh criticism from people who hate her for her faith and her godly principles, often instructing the Democrat senators on how the law works. On the Court, Barrett will act as a “backstop” for Chief Justice John Roberts, the supposed conservative who often sides with those who want to remake the Constitution.

Barrett’s first cases with the Supreme Court may include the outcome of the 2020 election–if the results are disputed.

The Peace President

Sudan is the third nation to announce they will begin normalizing relationships with Israel, following Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. This opens up to Israeli commercial aircraft the airspace above these nations–a first since air travel became possible.
President Trump believes other nations will follow. He has now received four nominations for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize: three related to Middle East peace, and a fourth for the end of hostility and normalized relations between Serbia and Kosovo.

How to Pray: Praise God for a win on the Supreme Court, and this new level of peace. Pray for the election results, and especially for the Senate. These senators are fighting tough battles and their victory is needed to keep the courts from being packed: Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. David Perdue (R-GA), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ), Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO), Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA).

Also pray that John James (MI) and Tommy Tuberville (AL) and others will defeat the Democrat incumbents.

Ecc. 3:16-17 – And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there. I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

Thinking Through Truths We were created special by our Triune God in His image! We became separated from Him because of sin! We are unable to live a sinless life on our own! We earned death! “The wages of sin is death,” We have been bought back or redeemed by the blood of Jesus! We cannot be good enough to be counted worthy because our wage was set! We are saved by grace through faith from the death we had earned! We are returned to God to be special as a member of God’s family forever! Jesus paid our price and waits for us to accept His payment. He wants us so much that He was able to risk everything to bring us back to Him! That is love beyond comprehension! Thank You Jesus!
