Trump Threatens to Send Illegals to Sanctuary Cities

President Donald Trump said on Friday he was considering sending illegals to US sanctuary cities. He stated, “Because Democrats are unwilling to change our very dangerous immigration laws, we are indeed, as reported, giving strong considerations to placing Illegal Immigrants in Sanctuary Cities only.”

Then on Monday, he tweeted that those who cannot be held legally will be “given” to sanctuary cities and states.

Among those prepared to “welcome” illegals are Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, and Cambridge (MA) Mayor Marc McGovern.

Others have said these are “cruel efforts” to “retaliate” against sanctuary cities.

With a sanctuary designation, the law enforcement officials of these cities release deportable criminals instead of notifying ICE. After fail time is served, they disappear back into the community—whether these are murderers, vandals, guilty of DUI, and other offenders. Mr. Trump initially threatened loss of federal funds to sanctuary cities, but his efforts were challenged in the court system.

The President has continued to chastise Democrat lawmakers, whom he says could fix the problem in 15 minutes, if they wanted to.

Here are the things that need changing, according to Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who is putting a plan together:

  • The Flores decision mandated that a family with a minor child can only be held for 20 days before their court hearing.
  • The courts are so backlogged, it can take 2-3 years to get a hearing.
  • A quirk in the law prohibits sending families with minor children back to Central America.

Some Democrats don’t like the idea of receiving tens of thousands of new migrants who will instantly become a drain on the system. Among them is Cher. The President gladly retweeted her comments:

Why this Matters: In March alone, 103,492 migrants were taken into custody along the southern border or turned away—70 percent who are seeking asylum come from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. Even with a wall and troops at the border, these provisions in the law need to be revised in order to have a functioning immigration policy. Sen. Graham says a compromise plan will be brought to a vote in the Senate shortly after the break.

“Some People Did Something”

In talking about the 9/11 attacks, Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), said “some people did something.” This caused outrage in social media and even in The New York Post, which responded by featuring a picture of the twin towers on 9/11 with the headline: “Here’s your something.”

The President retweeted a video of Omar giggling and saying how the words “Al Qaeda” and “Hezbollah” carry weight and bring excitement, whereas “America” or “England” or “army” have no intensity. She said “You want that word [al Qaeda, Hezbollah] to carry weight and leave something” with the hearer.

Omar complained that she has received increased death threats since the President retweeted that video. Speaker Pelosi called the President to pull the tweet down and said she “has taken steps” to ensure Omar’s safety.

Why this Matters: Omar is firmly aligned with terror groups such as CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood, and frequently condemns Jews. President Trump responded to the controversy by saying, “Before Nancy, who has lost all control of Congress and is getting nothing done, decides to defend her leader, Rep. Omar, she should look at the anti-Semitic, anti-Israel and ungrateful U.S. HATE statements Omar has made. She is out of control, except for her control of Nancy!”

Paris’ Notre Dame Cathedral in Flames

One of the most visited buildings in the world, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, went up in flames a few minutes after closing on Monday. The Church is 850 years old and houses thousands of works of art. The spire collapsed several hours after the fire began.

As of this writing, the blaze has been contained and there were no reports of injuries or deaths. It is believed that the main structure of Notre Dame has been saved and preserved, but there’s still a risk that some of the interior structures could collapse.

There have been an increasing number of attacks on Catholic churches in France in 2019, including vandalism, arson, and desecration.
